OBITUARY

LIEUT.-COL. K. B. TENNENT The death of Lieut.-Colone] Kenneth B. Tennent occurred at a private hospital in Wellington yesterday. Born in Dunedin, 53 years ago, he was educated at Timaru High School and was engaged in farming until he joined the in 19H - H e served with the N.Z.E.F. on Gallipoli and in Palestine where he was awardee! the Military Medal. He was a member of the Canterbury Mounted Rifles. At the end of the war he gained his commission He was associated with the Nelson Mounted Rifles for a period and later took over a farm near W’hangarei where he remained until 1935 when he went to England. When in Whangaiei he was in command of the North Auckland Mounted Rifles for four years, with the rank of Lt.-Colonel. On his ♦return to New Zealand he lived at Howick, near Auckland and in the 1938 General Elections contested the Otahuhu seat as a National Party candidate. In the second World War he again offered his services to the Army and twice went to Egypt on tioopships as Conducting Officer. On his retirement from the Army Lt -Colonel Tennent came to Nelson where he was Chief Executive Officer for the Nelson E.P.S. and secretary of the Nelson Club. In the E.P.S. his efficiency and organising ability were greatly appreciated by members of the organisation, and his kindly nature won many friends who wiil regret his passing. He is survived by his widow (formerly Miss Mary Warren, of England).
