INSUFFICIENT FOOD IN WORLD
TASK FOR STATISTICIANS London, Sept. 17. There was insufficient food in the world to provide for some time rations on a scale that any of them thought desirable, said the Food Minister, Mr Ben Smith, addressing the International Conference of Food Statisticians. He added that there had been an acute shortage of meat, fats and sugar, and only very limited supplies of cereals for animal foodstuffs would be available until the next harvest in the southern hemisphere. “We are living at a critical lime. The present need is for figures quickly as a guide to the immediate future.” The statisticians at the conference come from ten European nations, also Canada and America. Russia sent an observer.
