HONESTY IN BUSINESS
(To the Editor; Sir, It is refreshing to find published the candid remarks regarding "honesty, •in business” as reported at the Dominion Conference On Christian Order, in Christchurch. I wonder how many Nelsonians. “a very Christian centre,” will give heed to those remarks? With so many ex-servicemen seeking homes and land to settle on, the necessity of caution in seeing that all such transactions are carried out in the strict letter of the law and the area of land purchased in good faith from Government offices or otherwise have a clear title to possession by the purchaser. As it is. a man may purchase land on a registered surveyor’s plan and find on transfer that the area has been declared much less. Complaints and all reference to solicitors, registrars of lands and selling offices are ignored and no explanation is given to the unfortunate purchaser. I suggest that there is room for improvement ancl no seller, whether a private office or a Stale department. should be allowed to sell land without giving to the purchaser a detailed, plan of the area which the Lands Department registrar must accept. The above is only one instance where a small private person cannot obtain justice. The letter from a correspondent regarding the Takaka memorial is another. It is the private ■person who puts these authorities in power. The public should consider this— (
