WAKEFIELD WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
JULY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Wakefield Women’s Institute was held in McPherson’s Rooms, the president Mrs Springer presiding over an excellent attendance. The president welcomed all, including one visitor. The roll call was “My idea of a friend” and the motto “Real friends are trumps; do hot discard them.” Finance .waa reported on and show r ed a veiy good balance.
Members were, reminded of . the clothed drive to. be held for'the assistance ;of. the people in Europe, and were asked to collect as many garments, as possibleTwo new members were elected. Five soldiers’ parcels were purchased by members at the meeting. A most enjoyable programme was given by members of the Musical Circle and two solos were beautifully rendered by Miss Crichton. Mrs Milner, of the Nelson YtM.C.A. Hospitality Club, gave a most interesting talk on the activities of the club, for members of the forces'. Mrs Milner was thanked for her talk' and was presented with a shoulder spray, A beautiful floral spray was sent to Mrs Lawrence on the occasion of her silver wedding anniversary. Mrs Lawrence was for many years a valued member but owing to illhealth had been unable to attend meetings for several months. There was a fine display of winter flowers entered for the competitions, which resulted as follows: Premier bloom Mi s Bastin 1, Mrs Douglas 2, Vase of winter decorations:--- Mrs B. Shea 1, Mrs Francois 2, Biggest carrot, Mrs B. Shea and Mrs J. McPherson Ist equal. Knitted garment:*' Mrs Bastin 1, Mrs Wells'2. An enjoyable cup of tea was servedby the hostesses after which the singing of the National Anthem closed the meeting.
