MAGISTRATE’S COURT

In the Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Mr T. E. Maunsell. S.M., the following prosecutions were brought by the police:— Raymond Hector Blackbie, for cycling on a footpath in Richmond was fined 10s and 10s costs. For suffering a chimney to be set on fire Walter L. Scott was fined 5s and 10s costs. William H. Galbraith was fined 10s and 10s costs for driving a car without a current license sticker affixed. Defendant said he had the sticker in the car. The following were fined on the information of Traffic Inspector L. R. Stringer, for driving cars without drivers’ licenses:— Norman W. Brake, 10s and 10s costs - Henry Arthur Cotton, 10s and 10s; David D. Bagust, 10s and 10s; Charles F. George. 5s and 10s; John Gillespie, 10s and 10s; Hamilton A. Hawthorne, 5s and 10s. Henry A. Cotton, for operating a motor vehicle without carrying k war- , rant of fitness, was fined 10s and 10s costs: and on similar charges Muriel E. Merritt was fined 10s and 10s costs; Harold J. Robertson (Mr M. C. H. Cheek), was fined 10s and 10s costs; Reginald Harry Richards, 10s and 10s costs; Harold N. S. Williams, 10s and 10s costs. Charles F. George, for driving an unlicensed car, was fined £2 and 10s costs: and Hamilton A. Hawthorn, also for driving an unlicensed car, was fined £2 and 10s costs. Herbert C. J. S. Bennitt pleaded not guilty to driving a car without being the holder of a driver’s license. He said he had made a late attempt to get a license but had been unable to do so. He was fined 10s and 10s costs. Nelson Taxis Ltd. (Ivir H. G. Brodic) pleaded guilty to employing a driver who did not possess a driver’s license. Counsel said that all the drivers had been warned and the company was not aware that Bennitt did not hold a license. Defendant company was convicted and discharged;
