LIQUOR IN VICINITY OF DANCE HALL
A CHARGE DISMISSED A charge of being in possession of liquor in the vicinity of a public dance, was brought by the police against a young airman, Patrick Maru Gates, in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, before Mr T. E. Maunsell, S.M. Defendant, represented by Mr M. C. H. Cheek, pleaded not guilty. Senior-Sergeant H. E. Knight said that the defendant was not attending the dance but had liquor for consumption by a person attending the dance. Constable A. G. Williams gave evidence of finding a party of three airmen in Alma lane, near the Velma dgnee hall, while a dance was in progress. Two of the men made off but the defendant remained, with an open bottle of beer in his hand. He said he had invited two friends from the dance to have a drink. In evidence Gates said that only one of the men had been to the dance, but that man had not had a drink nor did he ever drink.
The information was dismissed.
