AT THE PICTURES

Majestic: To-night and to-morrow, "Two Girls and a Sailor." In this pleasantly blended offering of music, drama, romance. song and comedy there is entertainment for old and young and the audiences on Saturday acclaimed it as a really satisfying picture. Van Johnson, June Allyson and Gloria de Haven arc the central figures in the story, but there are about 20 others whose names are well-known to picturegoers. They give a bright and interesting programme. State Theatre: Laurence Olivier in “The Demi-Paradise” commences Friday next. Box plans are at Begg’s (all matinee bookings at theatre). There is a brilliant portrajal by Laurence Olivier in a whim* ficai role with masterly cameous from the fine supporting cast in Two Cities’ unusual corned)-drama of a young Russian engineer's reactions to established English traditions and habits during a visit to England. Delicious humour, dramatic suspense, laughter, tears and romance, combined With the outstanding acting, make this picture irresistible screen fare. "The Demi-Paradise" was written and produced by Russian-bom Anatole de Grunwald and directed by Anthony Asquith, one of England’s wittiest and most artistic directors.
