PLUNKET SOCIETY
SUPERV ~ION OF PRE-SCHOOL CHILDREN At the end of March the Nelson branch of the Plunket Society had 446 babies under its supervision, and had dealt with 384 new baby cases. In addition the society had 398 pre-school children under supervision. These, figures were included in a report submitted by the Plunket Nurse, Miss H. I. Beatson, at the annual meeting of the branch. “We are pleased to note that a large percentage of the mothers are having their children immunised against diphtheria by the School Medical Officer,” stated the report. “During the winter month-, a number of babies and children were also immunised against whooping cough which was very prevalent. Our pre-school days are filled to capacity. It is pleasing to know that so many mothers realise the importance of keeping their preschool children under supervision. The children are examined twice a year from the age of eighteen months —once by the School Medical Officer, and once by the nurse.
