AT THE PICTURES
Majestic: Finally to-night, -The Man Who Came to Dinner.” To-morrow and Friday, “Silver Spurs” and “This is the Life.” Starting Saturday, “The White Cliffs of Dover." The double-feature programme for to-morrow and Friday will open with a comedy with many musical numbers and will go on to a Western that features Roy Rogers, who has been such a success in the last year or two. This film has several excellent songs in it. “The White Cliffs of Dover,” for which there is heavy booking of seats already, will start a fourday season on Saturday afternoon.
State: Darryl F. Zanuck’s production of “The Purple Heart,” starring Dana Andrews, Farley Granger, Richard Conte, Trudy Marshall; also pictures of German horror camps which will be Screened after each afternoon and evening performance. ‘ The Purple Heart” depicts the trial by the Japanese of the American aviators who bombed Tokio, and it was made in secrecy because U.S. Government officials' frowned on suggestions for pictures presenting the barbaric phases of the Japs. Zanuck is noted foxjumping on what is called “hot spot news” for his pictures, and in anticipating a change, he secured a lucky break in having everything ready for this daring picture.
