AUSTRALIA OUT FOR 147
FIRST INNINGS OF VICTORY TEST CRICKET (Rec. 10.35 a.m.) London, June 25. Australia was ali out for 147 and had to fight to avert a follow-on in the second Victory Test at Sheffield. The English batsmen in their second innings also failed badly, being dismissed for 190. Australia needs 330 to win. The wicket to-day did not appear to be unduly vicious, but England's swing bowlers moved the ball disconcertingly and Pope, who finished with fine figures, exploited a spot on the pitch. Apart from Carmody. none of the Australians looked like staying long. Dewon the pitch helped England’s fast and medium bowlers. Pope and Pollard, in the pre-lunch session when Australia lost eight wickets for 133 runs. Hasset’s early dismissal for five and the .running out of Miller, who scored a century in the first victory test, after he made 17. started the Australian collapse. Washbrookv and Hutton gave England a good start, putting on 56 for the first wicket, but seven wickets then fell for the addition of 36 runs, despite a solid 38 by Hammond. Griffith and Pollard added 55 for the eighth wicket. The attendance was approximately 30,000.
