MAPUA W.D.F.U.

ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the MapuaMahana branch of the W.D.F.U. was held in the Presbyterian Church Hall, and considering the wintry weather, the attendance of members was very satisfactory. The meeting endorsed the action of the president and secretary in regard to the proposal of the Public Hall Committee to purchase the piano owned by the division; they having refused to sell, but agreed to lend the piano to the Hall Committee which should be responsible for care a:.d tuning of piano until such time as other arrangements shall be made. It was decided that future meetings of the division will be held in the Public Hall. An invitation was received from the Mapua-Mahana Women’s Institute to attend its birthday party in the hall on 14th June. A suggestion was made that a dance should be held in the spring to raise funds for the W.D. A letter was received from the Rev. R W. W. Alexander asking that the branch try to arrange a public meeting to be addressed by Mrs Moncrieff on behalf of the. Navy League: and also a meeting of school children from Mapua and Mahana schools to be addressed by the same speaker. It was decided to ask Mrs Moncrieff to address a meeting of the W.D. which for the occasion should be open to the public; and to pass on the matter of an address specially to school children to the headmaster of the Mapua School. It was announced that the winners of the potato competition were Mrs Forsyth 1, and Mrs Higgs 2. A posy was presented to Mrs Forsyth, the retiring president, by Mrs G., Fraser, panied by words of. appreciation of Mrs Forsyth’s untiring efforts on behalf' of the branch. The president’s report enumerated the many activities and good works of the past year in which the branch had been engaged the greater part of which has already been reported in the columns of the “Mail.” The balance sheet presented by Mrs G. Fraser showed that much help had been given in worthy directions and there was a satisfactory credit balance. The election of officers resulted in Mrs Forsyth being re-elected president, and Mrs Hogg, secretary; treasurer. Mrs Cosgrove; vice-presidents, Mesdames S. Thomas S. Thawley„J?. Coutts, Hercus and G. Fraser: committee. Mes*” dames V. Wakefield. Higgs, and Duggan; housekeeper and rest home secretary, Mrs Forsyth; delegates to provincial executive. Mesdames Forsyth and Hogg, with Mesdames G.
