MEMORIAL SERVICE

CEREMONY AT LIDICE SPEECH BY DR BENES London, June 11. Czechs totalling 100,000, massed on the site of Lidice, which was martyred by the Germans, and heard the President, Dr Benes, announce that Gauleiter Frank would be handed over to the Czechs by the Americans for trial as a war criminal responsible for the massacre of Lidice, says Reuter's correspondent at Prague. Frank took over as Czech Protector when "Butcher” Heydrich was killed. Dr Benes, during the memorial service, which was attended by the British and Russian Ambassadors, said the Great Powers must find a way of collaborating with Russia for future peace. Czechoslovakia needed to find a solution of the internal problems, especially the German and Hungarian minorities. If these were not cleared out they would commit crimes leading to war as the Sudeten Germans had dene.
