ATTACK ON VATICAN
STRONG MOSCOW RADIO London, June 9. A strong attack on the policy of the Vatican was made by a Moscow radio commentator broadcasting in English. “When the attempt against Hitler’s life failed, the Vatican immediately sent a message congratulating him on his miraculous salvation,” said the commentator. “The world has also heard the voice of the Vatican pleading for mercy and forgiveness for Nazi criminals. “The Vatican officially announced its strict neutrality throughout the war, but can silent indifference to the bloody crimes of the Nazis on the one hand and the burning appeals for mercy for ciiminals on the other be called neutrality?” asked the Russian. “The Vatican even now cannot find words to condemn Nazism. The Pope, justifying his attitude to Hitlerism, filled his speech with insinuations against the Soviet Union in an attempt to provoke disagreement and disunion among the United Nations and sow seeds of discard, mutual distrust and suspicion.”
