IRISH NEUTRALITY

ITo the Editor! Sir, —The correspondent "Celtic,” appears upset because I took him to be an Englishman. What led me astray was (firstly), his claim regarding the length of time an Englishman must remain in Ireland as he had done, before being able to understand its problems, etc. I naturally concluded that he \ as basing this on his own experience as an Englishman. Secondly, he did not appear to have that loyalty for and appreciation of his own land which one might expect from an Irishman acquainted with its history. Thirdly, he wrote from an English rather than an Irich point of view. I hope that he will consider the above reasons sufficient to hold me excused. —I am, etc., “ENGLISHMAN.” Motueka, 11th June.
