This is a new appointment and Admiral Boyd will take charge of all naval air stations in the British Isles and also co-ordinate all Hying training in the Royal Navy. U.S. NAVAL MISSION SYDNEY 1 , This Day.—Six members of the United States Congress have arrived in Australia to inspect naval establishments.. They are members Qf a special , committee appointed by Congress and are accompanied by four naval officers. The party will visit Europe before returning to Washington. Their spokesman said members had given an undertaking that they would make no public statement on the mission before they returned to America. ARMY DESERTER HANGED LONDON, June 11.—Werner Schiedel, a United States Army deserter, who last autumn and winter led a band of American and Canadian deserters in a wave of hold-upg* around Rome and Naples, to-day was hanged in the prison yard at Aversa, reports the Rome correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain. A special court-martial on March 27th convicted Schmiedel of. the murder of an Italian civilian during the hold-up Of a Rome restaurant. The gang’s crimes included the hold-up pf the motor-car of the Polish General Ander, on the Rome-Naples highway. DISASTROUS FLOODS SYDNEY-! This Day.—Disastrous floods are mounting along the north coast of New South Wales. Several towns are under water. In many centres thousands are homeless. Transport has been halted and extensive damage done to roads* buildings and crops. More than 900 rail passengers from Sydney to Brisbane are stranded on their way. Heavy along the coast have driven two coastal vessel? ashore.
