KYUSHU AIR BASES

THIRD RAID IN THREE DAYS AMERICAN CARRIER PLANES ON JOB New York, June 8. Tokio radio says 200 American carrier planes raided Kanoya and other south Kyushu air bases today. It was the third raid in three days. “Improving weather in the Okinawa area to-day permitted the large use of aircraft and tanks in support of Tenth Army troops as they continued their effort to clear the Oruku Peninsula and drive into Jaejudake escarpments,” says Admiral Nimitz’s communique. "The Sixth Marine Division, moving slowly to the south-east against machine-guns and heavy automatic weapons in entrenched positions, gained about 200 yards on the left flank. “Enemy casualties on Okinawa to yesterday were estimated at 66,324 killed.”
