STQKE-WAKATU BRANCH The June meeting of the Stoke-Waka-tu Women's Institute was held in the Stoke Hall. Mrs Vivian presided. Mrs Vivian read the Dominion president’s letter on “Home and Country;” The secretary read a large number of letters from servicemen who had received parcels. The motto for the month “If each before his own door sweep, the village would be clean,” was well illustrated by Mrs Corby. Roll call -a renovating hint,” produced many useful answers. Mrs Squire, delegate to the annual council meeting held in Takaka, gave an interesting and comprehensive report and was warmly thanked. An instructive address on the machinery of the Electoral Act was given by Mr A. J. Ching, who was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. A cake competition was won by Mrs B. Ching. A 10s Post Office Savings Bank account was opened for an institute member’s baby. The monthly competitions resulted : Best bloom, Mrs Corby (purple stock) 1; Mrs Chayton (yellow pansy), 2; eggless cake] Mrs Chaytor, 1; Mrs Vivian, 2.
