FAILURE OF ENEMY HOAX

N.Z. PILOTS NOT FOOLED INCIDENT ON BOUGAINVILLE Sydney, June 30. The Japanese on southern Bougainville are trying to talk New Zealand Air Force Corsair pilots out of bombing them, reports an Australian war correspondent in the area. As the 1000-pounders crash down, a radio voice comes in on the same frequency used by the Corsairs. “Cease the bomb strike.” it orders authoritatively, in perfect English The bombs continue to fall and the voice again commands. curtly: “Hold up the bomb strike.” The New Zealand airmen are not fooled and carry on. Then the radio voice whines: “Cease the bomb strike —you are killing your own men.” But the New Zealand Corsair pilots know whom they are bombing—and they still carry on.
