VOLUNTARY RATIONING PLAN
GIFT FOR BRITAIN Auckland, June 5.
Details of a scheme of voluntary food rationing to aid the people of Britain inaugurated by the mayoress of Auckland, Mrs Allum, have now been completed, and it will be put into operation next Monday. Announcing the details, Mrs Allum said that the scheme was being launched to enable, citizens in this country to express in a practical way their admiration and gratitude for the courageous sacrifices of the p’eople of Britain through the war years. “I am inviting citizens to give up one week’s rations of butter, tea, sugar and meat, or even more if they feel so inclined, during the four weeks commencing next Monday,” she said. “Those who wish to co-operate should go to their grocer or dairyman in the usual way, but, instead of purchasing butter, tea or sugar for themselves, should say they wish the food to go to Britain. They should then hand over their coupons and money. The butchers will assist in a similar way, but can accept coupons only on three specified days during the period.” Mrs Allum added that the Government was willing to grant all facilities for the gifts t 0 go to the people of Britain.
