OBLIGATIONS OF MOTORISTS Wellington, This Day. “There is an obligation on the owner of a motor-vehicle to maintain his re gistration plates in a clear and legible condition.” said the Commissioner o! Transport. Mr. G. L. Laurenson. drawing attention to “the unsatisfactory con dition of many of the number plates carried on motor-vehicles at present ‘ Though the present plates were issue*; some three rears ago. there is no excuse whatever for a motorist or truck-driver retaining damaged or illegible plates Substitute registration plates may be ob tained from the post office for 2/- a se< and these should be procured when tht condition of the old plates deteriorates. •‘While the majority of owners scrupfi Tously ensure that their number plates art kept in good order, there are still man. 1 * vehicles with unsatisfactory plates. It is not desired to take drastic actios against the owuers of these, but it i« eg sential in the interests of rond safety that legible plates be displayed.*’
