LIBERATED N.Z. PRISONERS
NEARLY 6006 IN BRITAIN London, June 4. A total of 5700 liberated members of the N.Z.E.F. have now passed into the repatriation centre in Kent. Nearly 500 men sailed from Italy on 29th April and should reach England this week. Approximately 250 men are still on the Continent, of whom 140 are unaccounted for. It is thought those not yet traced are likely to be in areas of southern Austria and eastern Germany, while it is reported that quite a number are taking the opportunity of seeing as much of the Continent as they can before deciding to report to the repatriation authorities. Only one member of the R.N.Z.A.F. among the nearly 450 airmen prisoners has not yet returned to England, but he is known to be in hospital on the Continent. One sailor has also not returned but he is waiting until he can bring his Lithuanian wife with him. Nearly 500 members of the N.Z.E.F. have sailed for New Zealand and 35 R.N.Z.A.F. personnel.
