VICTORY THANKSGIVING
SERVICES IN WELLINGTON Wellington, This Day. In common with other centres in New Zealand, Wellington and its adjacent districts yesterday gave thanks to God for the victory of the forces of freedom in Europe at special citizens’ services.
The principal service in the Wellington district, at the Town Hall, was attended by the Governor-General. Sir Cyril Newall, and Lady Newell, and by representatives of the national, civic, and business life of the The acting-Prime Minister, Mr Nash, represented the Government, and was accompanied by other Cabinet Ministers. BIG OVERFLOW AUDIENCE AT AUCKLAND Auckland, May 13. Many thousands of Aucklanders responded wholeheartedly to the call of the.mayor. Mr Allum. to attend the citizens’ thanksgiving service for victory in Europe in the Town Hall this afternoon. All seats in the rrtain hall were occupied half an hour before the service was scheduled to begin and the concert chamber quickly filled wit!) the overflow. In addition many hundreds assembled in adjacent streets to listen to the service by the aid of loudspeakers.—P.A.
