DISTRIBUTION OF SURRENDER REPORT New Y«rk, May 10. The president of the Associated Press of America, Mr Robert McLean, stated: “The Associated Press of America profoundly regrets the distribution on Monday of the report of the total surrender in Europe, which investigation disclosed was distributed in advance of SHAEF authorisation. ‘The whole long and honourable record of the Associated Press of America has been based on its responsibility as to the integrity and authenticity of news and the observance of obligations voluntarily assumed as appropriately affirmed by Mr Kent Cooper yesterday.” It is revealed that from 4 a.m. on sth May a number of newspapers of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association ceased using the Associated Press of America service and disconnected the ticker equipment in their offices. The journal “World's Press News” says it is believed the position has developed principally but not solely because of the false surrender story on 29th April which came from the American Senator Connally. This story caused a great deal of trouble in London offices.
