PLUNKET SOCIETY AND FOUNDER’S DAY
[To the Editor) Sir, —May I remind your readers that Monday, May 14th, is the 38th anniversary of the foundation of the Plunket Society. It is fitting that this date, set apart by Plunket workers to do honour to its founder, Sir Trubv King, should fall this year at a time of historic celebration. He too was a fighting man; he too, made history, but his objective .was to preserve life. Surely it is no exaggeration. to suggest that the Plunket Society plaj'ed its part in building up the virility of our fighting forces of whose record we arc so justifiably proud. Sir Truby was recognised as a man of science and vision but the struggle to establish his ideals was a long and difficult one. His unique qualities of courage, determination and singlemindedness were largely responsible for the successful establishment of the Plunket Society, now an accepted feature of our social life. To-day’s task of re-building a new and better world calls for renewed efforts on the part of all and the Plunket Society must take its place in the front line —a living memorial to its founder. —I am. etc.. M. E. NEVIN. President Plunket Society. Nelson, 12th May.
