ONE THING LACKING
[To the Editor! Sir, —On Wednesday I attended the VR-Day celebrations in Nelson, and was impressed by the gay decorations that came out at such short notice. One thing was lacking, however, some recognition to our Russian Ally. I looked at the display in one of the shop windows —a wondprful array of photographs of British and American leaders —but “no Joe.” I left New Zealand on 2nd September, 1939, and served in the European zone (Royal Navy) until January of this year, so consider myself entitled to voice the opinion of the people of England, that Russia’s heroic stand saved the lives of thousands of our men. A couple of Red Flags here and there would cost little, and. whatever our political views, would show a little respect for the millions of Russian soldiers and civilians who also gave their lives. —I am. etc., “BEWILDERED SAILOR.” Nelson, 10th May.
