VE-DAY AT RIWAKA
THANKSGIVING, PARTY AND BALL A thanksgiving service held at the Memorial Gates, Riwaka, to mark the cessation of hostilities in Europe was largely attended by the public. The Rev. J. H .Combes conducted the service, and Mr R. C. Bryant played the accompaniments for Ihe hymns. To celebrate VE-Day the combined Riwaka and Brooklyn Patriotic Com mittees arranged a plain and fancy dress party for the children of both areas at the Odd Fellows’ Hall, Riwaka, on Wednesday afterncon. The function was a great success, there being a large attendance of young people and parents. Messrs J. Goodyer and D. Evans organised the games and dances, and Mr R. C. Bryant officiated as pianist. Ice cream, soft drinks and afternoon tea were provided free; and for all who participated the afternoon proved thoroughly enjoyable. In continuance of VE-Day celebrations a victory ball was held in the hall in the evening. Approximately 400 dancers from all parts of the district attended the function. The Pam Pam Dance Band provided :he music, while Messrs B. W. Hickmottand H. L. Good, all carried out the duties of M.C.’s.
