EGG SALES

BLACK MARKETING ALLEGED POSITION IN NELSON TRACKING DOWN OF OFFENDERS “In spite of the fact that producers carried resolutions requesting that the Egg Marketing Regulations be applied in Nelson and that an egg floor be established, some of them still continue to market eggs through illegal channels,” said an official of Nelson Cooperative Farm Products Limited, the firm controlling the egg floor, in a statement to-day. “It is appreciated that the supply position is acute at this particular time of the year, and the difficulty of conducting an egg floor with a shortage of stock has been experienced during the past two weeks,” continued the statement. “Weekly distribution of five and ten dozen eggs only have Deen made to all storekeepers in the area, and an attempt to satisfy hotels and restaurants has been made. The trade generally has been most patient and has accepted gratefully what small quantities have been offering, although in some quarters the egg ,floor itself has* been unfairly blamed for the shortage of eggs in the city. “In order to track down the irregular marketing a stamp is being affixed to the grading machine, meaning that all eggs distributed from the floor for re-sale by th e grocer will be datestamped, with a particular coloured ink and a distinguishing mark also. The sale of eggs, other than those supplied through the floor, which are graded and date-stamped, is illegal, and an inspector will be looking for unbranded eggs in the controlled marketing area. By supporting the floor, all can be assured of more ever distribution.”
