PREPARATION FOR V-DAY

MOTUEKA ARRANGEMENTS Some months ago the Motueka Borough Council considered the question of arranging for a suitable ceremony to celebrate the cessation of hostilities against Germany. After councillors had expressed their opinions the matter was left to the Mayor (Mr W. G. Egington) to arrange. After consultation with the organisations concerned it has been decided that on the day the news is received a short ceremony will be held at the Council Chambers at noon, when the Mayor will read the official notice which will be followed by a prayer of thanksgiving, the whole ceremony concluding with the singing of the National Anthem Next morning a dawn service will be held at the War Memorial (dawn for the purpose of this service will for the next month be 7 a.m.). The order of the service will be as follows: National Anthem, - hymn, prayer of thanksgiving, scripture reading, address by the Mayor, prayer of intercession, hymn, address by president of R.S.A., hymn. Benediction. The whole service should not take longer than half an hour and the Motueka Ministers’ Association has agreed to be present to assist.
