LIBERATED PRISONERS OF WAR
DETAILS OF YALTA AGREEMENT An agreement was reached at Yalta relating to prisoners of war and civilians liberated by forces operating under the Soviet command and forces under the British command. Provision is made in the agreement for liberated prisoners to be separated immediately from enemy prisoners of war. and for measures to be taken for the protection of camps from enemy bombing. British or Soviet authorities are to be notified without delay regarding subjects of either country who have been found. The authorities pf either country will supply liberated citizens of the contracting parties with adequate food, clothing, housing and medical attention, and with transport until they are handed over to the Soviet or British authorities. The military authorities of the two countries are empowered to make advances of money to liberated subjects. Exprisoners of war and civilians may be employed, until repatriated, at camps in which they are situated, and the contracting parties are expected to use all practicable means to ensure the evacuation to the rear of these liberated citizens or subjects.
The agreement was signed by the United Kingdom. Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa. India and Russia.
