DINGHY CAPSIZES
YOUTH DROW’NED IN WELLINGTON Wellington, This Day. Leonard Higgs, ageu ls> yearn, «i 9 t ile Avenue, Miramar, was drowned in Evans Bay on Friday night, when a dinghy in which he and a companion were sailing capsized in a southerly squall off Burnham wharf. The strong wind which sprang up suddenly about 10 o’clock caught the two youths unprepared about 1550 yards off the wharf, and capsized their sailing dinghy, throwing them into the water. Higgs and his companion, John Hollings, of Clyde Street. Island Bay, <s:t.g to the overturned boat for some time, but when they ’found it drifting away from the wharf toward Shelley Bay, they derided to try to swim to the wharf. Hollings struck ou;>t first, and reached the wharf safely. He said later that when he saw Higgs last he was endeavouring take off his coat before striking out for • the wharf.
