The 1945 Rugby season opened in Nelson on Saturday and although the play of the teams lacked finish and many of the players were obviously still far from fit, there were some bright spots in both the senior games at Trafalgar Park and the interest of the large crowd was maintained. The City Pipe Band and the band of the Nelson R.N.Z.A.F. station played the senior teams on to the field and at half time a display of marching, which was greatly appreciated by the crowd, was given by the Air Force Band.
