POTSDAM HEAVILY BOMBED

IMPORTANT GARRISON TOWN London, April 15. R.A.F. Lancasters last night heavily attacked the garrison town and transport centre of Potsdam. 18 miles west of Berlin, in the line of Allied troops closing in on the capital. The centre of Berlin itself was also bombed. The Press Association says Potsdam has always been the headquarters of the modern German Army. It is known that in recent weeks the military and Nazi departments moved from Berlin to Potsdam, which, If for sentimental reasons alone, is the place where the German forces might be expected to make a stand before Berlin. Last night’s attacks which were made in fairly clear weather, were intended to bomb German armies in the big barracks in Potsdam and also to paralyse the town’s transport facilities. P.O.W. CAMP CAPTURED London, April 14. Oflag 79. five miles north-east of Brunswick, was captured by Allied forces says the War Office. Some 1957 British and Commonwealth officers and 412 other ranks, the majority of whom are British, were liberated. The next-of-kin will be informed as soon as possible.
