130,000 PRISONERS TAKEN MONTH’S CAMPAIGN BY RUSSIANS (Rec. 10.20 a.m.) Rugby, April 13. The, Russians have captured Vienna, states an order of the day issued by Marshal Stalin to-night. From March I6th to April 13 130,000 prisoners were taken on the approaches and in the streets of Vienna. A total of 1345 enemy tanks and self-propelled guns as well as 2250 field-guns was destroyed or captured. Russian stormtroops to-day were mopping up the last German defenders in Vienna. More than £OOO Germans who fired from ruined buildings or from behind street barricades have been killed in the past 24 hours. Troops north-east of Vienna occupied a number of places including Essling and Grossenzersdorf. besides a number of other places including the railway station of Eidesvrunn, thus cutting the railway and the highway from Vienna to Brno. To-night’s Soviet communique makes no mention of fighting on the Oder front. The communique says that troops north-east and north of Bratislava captured the town and railway station of Skalica.
