NELSON’S MILK'
OFFICIAL REPORT ON CRITICISM SUPPLY COMPARES VERY FAVOURABLY “WILD STATEMENTS” AND “FALSE IMPRESSIONS” “I have no hesitation in stating that the supply of milk to the Nelson public compares very favourably with any other supply in New Zealand.” said the Health Inspector. Mr H. Coltman, in a report to to-day’s meeting of the Waimea County Council. The inspector was commenting on the reported discussion on the milk supply by members of the Tahunanui Town Board, which, he said, must have caused concern to residents in that area. “One member of the board went so far as to say that supplies were being watered down and mixed with bad milk and inferred that the regulations were a curse, whilst another member, to say that the cream is separated from a certain quantity of the milk before it is added to the remainder of the supplies, insinuated that either the suppliers or the Nelson Dairies are adopting illegal tactics.” said the report. “For the information of the council, I have no hesitation in stating that the supply of milk to the Nelson public compares very favourably with any other supply in New Zealand. Tests are taken regularly and the samples are forwarded to Wellington for chemical analysis and if the critics concerned would only take the trouble fo ascertain what was being done before uttering such wild statements concerning matters they know little about, false impressions would not be scattered abroad ” The chairman. Councillor J. Corder, said he was very pleased that the inspector. had referred to the statements made by members of the Tahunanui Town Board concerning the Nelson milk supply. They were very strong statements to make and reflected not only on Nelson Dairies, but also on those farmers who supplied Nelson Dairies. Councillor L. H. Mytton: You wouldn’t think they would say that unless they had something to go on. The chairman remarked that he was quite sure that if anything was wrong the Health Department would quickly have got on to the matter. If any of the matters suggested were taking place they should be thoroughly investigated and sheeted home to the offenders.
