WORLD COURT
JURISTS’ CONFERENCE IN WASHINGTON Washington, April 9. The Secretary of State. Mr Stettinius, welcoming jurists representing thirty United Nations meeting here to consider the establishment of a world court, said . “You must decide whether the old permanent Court of International Justice will be continued or some new organisation established. To your measured judgment the people of the world, with faith in order under law, entrust this important initial work.” Sir Michael Myers, Chief Justice of New Zealand, one of two delegates appointed to reply, said “No person or nation can reasonably expect to have its own way in everything. There must be readiness to give and take. Either we go forward to peace and security or back to barbarism.” PROVISIONAL AGREEMENT New York, April 10. United Nations jurists have provisionally agreed to model the new World Court on present international justice, reports the “Herald-Tribune” Washington correspondent. This action apparently rules out the major changes favoured by a few smaller nations which seek an enlarged scope for courts. The jurists’ recommendations are subject to the approval of the SanFrancisco conference.
