SEXTON BLAKE FILMED

For the first time since Sexton Blake was created 50 years ago, this supersleuth, accompanied by his assistant Tinker and the bloodhound Pedro, has been filmed. In a few months’ time the first instalments of this Anglo-American film, “Meet Sexton Blake,” will be available. Sexton Blake, played in the movie by David Farrar, and Tinker (John Varley) adequately continue the sequence of adventure in which crooks are outwitted despite fearful odds. The character of Blake was conceived by a member of the Union Jack staff early in 1894. The author, Harry Blyth, was commissioned by the editor, G. A. Henty (later of Boys’ historical novels fame), to write the adventures of this character, and the first number appeared on 4th May, 1894.
