PUSH TO PORTO GARIBALDI
EIGHTH ARMY PATROLS ENEMY ON SENIO RIVER BYPASSED London, April 5. Patrols on the Eighth Army coastal sector have consolidated gains on the sandspit between Lake Comacchio and the sea and have pushed on to positions south of Porto Garibaldi, which is the terminus of the railway running northwest to Ferrara, states an Allied communique from Italy. Patrol clashes are the only other activity along the front. Reuter’s correspondent points out that ; Eighth Army troops south of Porto : Garibaldi are by-passing Germans on i the Senio River line and are now only ' 10 miles from open country. | R.A.F. fighters and fighter-bombers in ; great strength yesterday attacked road j and rail movements in north Italy, besides fuel and ammunition dumps. Italyj based fighters strafed railways at j Munich, Regensburg, Pilsen and Linz. FIFTH ARMY OFFENSIVE I The German News Agency says early ; to-day formations of the Allied Fifth Army, after several hours’ artillery ; fire, which became a violent drum, fire barrage, went over to the offensive iat about 6 a.m. in the Ligurian coastal sector.
