HELD FOR REPATRIATE*) PRISONERS DETERIORATING GOODS TO GO TO HOSPITALS Wellington, This Day. In a statement issued recently to the Press from the High Commissioner’s Oifice in Loudon, it was stated that there were evident signs of deterioration in the contents of certain parcels forwarded from New Zealand and held in store there for delivery to prisoners-of-war when released. It was added iu the statement that it was proposed to have suitable goods that were addressed to prisoners-of-war and servicemen reported missing, distributed among New Zealand servicemen in hospitals. “This gave a wrong view of the position, and it can now be stated (liar all of the parcels now in store in Euglund and sny that may later be forwarded, will be held there till such time as pris. oners have been released and are able lo receive ibem.” Ft was stated officially last night. "It appears that in some cases certain of the contents are deteriorating. and it is proposed to remove any such goods from the parcels both to preserve the value of the remainder of the contents aud to ensure as well that no deterioration occurs on that account to other parcels held in store. Any such articles will, if lit for consumption, be distributed to servicemen iu hospitals. The contents of those parcels addressed to personnel since classified as deceased or prisoners-of-war notified as having returned to New Zealand via the Middle East will, with the exception of food, be dealt with in accordance with the postal regulations. It is felt that the foregoing arrangeniens will meet with general satisfaction.”
