Ist child.—lt is a wide opening. 2nd child—Rather it is a colour. 3rd chitcl.—l’m sure it is a dog's howl 4th child—And I say it is a tree. Which was right? They all were, for the word is BAY. 1. A wide opening on the coast is a bay. 2.. A reddish-brown colour is bay used especially lor horses. 3 The cry of a hound —as Shakespeare writes in his play “Julius Caesar : —"I had rather be a dog and bay the moqp, than such a Roman.” 4. The bay tree— *the true laurel, called also Sweet Bay.
