OBITUARY

MR E. T. D. BELL Wellington, Oct. 10, The death has occurred of Mr Ernes! Tancred Dillon Bell, barrister and solicitor, last survivor of the family of th* late Sir Francis Dillon Bell. He was i!» practice in the Dominion for more 50 years. Born in Auckland in 1857 h# was educated at the Otago Boys’ Higd School and later at Christ’s College* Christchurch. He joined the legal firm of Bell, Gully and Izard in Wellington of which his elder brother, the late Sip F. H. D. Bell, was senior partner. Ho was a man of exceptional scientific interests and attainments, contributing largely to the advancement of science generally.—P.A. MRS R. C. TENNENT Wellington. Oct. 10. Mrs Robert Collings Tennent. daughter of the late Dr. Leonard Boor, of Wellington and Nelson, died in Wellington on Saturday in her 91st year. She arrived in Wellington in 1856 with her father, who took up land where Masterton now stands. He gave up farming to resume practice of his profession in the Hutt Valley and later in Wellington. In the seventies he became medical superintendent of the Nelson Hospital, where he remained I till his death. Mrs Tennent was mar- ; ried in Nelson to the late Robert ColI lings Tennent. He was in the service of the Bank of New South Wales, and j they lived, among other places.’ in l Patea, in the pioneering days of TaraJ naki. Wanganui. Auckland* Blenheim, Timaru. Dunedin, and Invercargill. He died five years ago. There are five sons still living: Major L. C. Tennent. Salisbury. Southern Rhodesia: Mr H. D. Tennent. Dunedin: Mr H. C. Tennent, Honolulu: Mr K. B. Tennent. Nelson; Colonel A. A. Tennent. Wellington. Another son. Mr R. V. Tennent. died in 1918. Two sons served in the Boer War. four in the Great War. and three in the present war. Surviving daughters are Mrs Wybrants Olphert, Wellington. and Mrs N. Bramson. Te Araroa. The late Mrs P. H. Mules, Woodville. was also a daughter. There arA 18 grandchildren, and 12 great-grand-children.
