GERMAN AND BRITISH FILMS COMPARED The Portugese Catholic Action Organisation strongly condemns German films sent to Portugal as portraying the crudest and most repugnant sensualism. The facts were broadcast by the BBC to Europe. This Catholic body places all films shown in Portugal in one of four categories: “For all,” “For adults.” “For adults of strong moral character” and “to be condemned.” Practically all British films shown in Portugal have been placed in the first class; the great majority of German films in the last class. Catholic Action considers that, from the viewpoint of Christian morals. Britain makes the best films. Two films portraying Britain at war are particularly commended. They are the American picture “Mrs Miniver,” and the British “One of Our Aircraft is Miseing.”
