NELSON CATCHMENT BOARD

INSPECTION OF GOLDEN BAY RIVERS PLANNING OF PROTECTION WORKS During the past week members of the Catchment Board inspected the water courses of the Aorere and Takaka Rivers. The Board is considering a programme of river protection works, and with a view to arranging these works in order of urgency, will visit as soon as possible all major water courses in its district. “Until the war is over, and until the board has become properly established, only urgent works can be considered,” said Mr C. I. Kidson, chairman of the board. “These, however, must be designed to fit in with the major protective schemes which the board has by Statute to prepare, and it is hoped by undertaking them now to minimise the damage by flood waters until the effect of long term planning can become apparent.”
