AS SOON AS PARIS IS FREE

GOVERNMENT TO MOVE FROM ALGIERS London, Aug. 15. Arrangements have been made for General de Gaulle’s Provisional Gov. ernment to fly from Algiers to Paris as soon as the capital is liberated, says “The Times” Bayeux correspond dent. If in the meantime the enemy is cleared out of a big town like Lyons it might serve General De Gaulle as a stepping stone to Paris. General De Gaulle’s Commissioner for Liberated Territories, M. Andre le Trocquer is mainly preoccupied with the plight of Paris, which, according to all reports is in a stage of siege. Seine bridges are down, railways are at a standstill and virtually all communications have been severed between Paris and the rest of France. All persons who have been in Paris recently give the same distressing picture of hollow-cheeked citizens standing in endless queues for dwindling rations. M. le Trocquer estimates that 1000 tons of supplies daily will be needed to feed Paris. Algiers radio says General Juin, former Commander-in-Chief of French forces in Italy, has been appointed chief of staff of the Committee of National Defence. U.S, AMBASSADOR IN FRENCH ARMY London, Aug. 15. The British United Press correspondent in Algiers says the former United States Ambassador to Paris, Mr William Bullitt, has enlisted in the French army with the rank of major, for service in military operations in French territory.
