TAKAKA WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

REQUEST FOR DENTIST IN GOLDEN BAY There was a large attendance at the monthly meeting of the Takaka Women’s Institute which was presided over by Mrs J. Page, who welcomed three new members. The president spoke on the motto “Don’t dodge difficulties —meet them, greet them and beat them.” Mrs Page thanked all members who had assisted in making the Birthday Party such an outstanding success and presented a gift to Mrs P. Wood, leader of the Drama Circle, for her help. The points prize for the year, for the handcraft and best bloom sections was presented to Mrs Sanderson, the winner in both sections. An interesting demonstration in pastel work was given by Mrs P. Wood, who was thanked by the president. It was decided to approach the Health Department with a request that a dentist be provided for the Golden Bay District. The roll call, “a short travel-talk,” was well answered and proved most interesting. The novelty necklaces made at home and worn by members showed much ingenuity and originality. A lucky cup competition was won by Mrs C. Newlove, Miss N. Reilly won the mystery parcel, and Mrs Jenkins won the lucky seat prize. For the best bloom competition Mrs A. Rose gained first and second place. The usual collection of funds for soldiers’ parcels was made.
