NELSON TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD

RICHMOND VISITORS ENTERTAIN There was a good attendance at the June meeting of the Nelson Townswomen's Guild. Mrs Claughton and her musical circle, with Mrs Daly as accompanist, gave two choral items “There'll Always be an England” and “Land of Hope and Glory.” The president. Mrs Muggeridge. then welcomed all new members and visitors. The rest ol the afternoon was devoted to musical entertainment of a very j high standard, provided by guests from J the Richmond W.D.F.U., including Mes- \ dames Dickenson. Max. Lewis, Dryden, McHendrie and Miss Max. Mrs Vining acted as accompanist. They were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. During the afternoon, tea was served by Mesdames Wright, Chisnall, Page, Gould, Dean. Walker, Brough, Douglas, and Pettit, Misses F. Young, E. Young and A. Jennings. CIRCLE ACTIVITIES The guild circles still continue to be active. The May meeting of the gardening circle took the form of a flower show. There was a beautiful display of flowers, shoulder sprays and saucer i posies. This was a successful as well as an enjoyable afternoon, the sum of £7 being raised for guild funds. The musical circle on 17th May held ' an informal afternoon, each member presenting a song or a reading. Although the play reading circle is a small one it is a very busy one. two meetings a month being held. On Tuesday an open afternoon is being held in an endeavour to interest more guild members in this circle. The handicraft circle is wprking hard making woollen floor mops, patchwork

and other novelties, and linen handkerchiefs. There is still a little felt work being done and. of course, knitting. The competition last week was the best oven cloth. There were fourteen entries.
