BISHENPUR SECTOR JAPANESE ATTACKS REPULSED London, May 27. A Burma communique states: “Our troops near Bishenpur continue to oust the enemy from positions in the foothills in this neighbourhood. One Japanese battalion has now been practicaly annihilated and the commander killed. In local actions further south we inflicted many casualties and repulsed a Japanese counter-attack 12 miles south of Bishenpur. On the PalelTamu road the Japanese made unsuccessful attacks. South-east of Kohima we occupied more enemy positions on ridges during Thursday night. South of Kohima. where the enemy has shown increased activity, vve repulsed a raiding party. Elsewhere in the Imphal area patrols were active. In the upper Kaladan west of Labawa we repulsed determined enemy attacks. In Arakan patrols and artillery were active. Allied air forces maintained widespread bombing and strafing attacks without loss.” FIGHT FOR MYITKYINA Chungking, May 27. Overcoming strenuous enemy automatic weapons and mortar fire General Stilwell’s Chinese and Americans advanced U miles south of Myitkyina reports a Chinese communique. Thirtyeighth Division troops captured Warong and killed 100 Japanese. Another Chinese unit captured a huge supply dump east of Mogaung Valley. General Stilwell’s communique states that Chinese and American aircraft yesterday inflicted many casualties on Japanese in the vicinity ot Loyang. At least 30 trucks were destroyed. A small vessel south-east of Hong Kong was damaged. Six troop-laden Yangtze river boats were set on fire. Many casualties were inflicted on enemy troops nearShansi. Planes also set fire to a supply dump at Shanhsien and strafed installations at Pinglu. One aircraft is missing from these operations in the area east of Luchih, in western Yunnan. We recaptured all heights north and south of Lengshuikow.
