FIGHTING SERVICES CLUB

WEEK-END ACTIVITIES Servicemen who visited the Fighting Services Club during the week-end were entertained with dancing, table tennis, Chinese checkers, cards and games. Comfortable easy chairs beside warm gas fires and plenty of magazines and papers provided relaxation for others. The club rooms were decorated with bowls of flowers and bright autumn berries arranged by the Horticultural Society which each week performs this service, contributing very largely to the home-like atmosphere of the club. Meals were served to nearly 400 members of the forces and in adddition many more had morning and afternoon tea and supper at the club. Several generous donations were received to assist in catering for the meals. These gifts included well-stocked hampers from the Wakefield and Hiwipango W.D.F.U.. a case of lettuce specially grown for the club by the girls of the Junior Red Cross. at the Richmond Special School, a sack of cabbages and a case of apples from the Park Davis Trading Company and meat from a country donor. Members of St. Mary's branch of the W.W.S.A. assisted in preparing and serving luncheon on Sunday. On Saturday evening there was a good attendance at this dance held at the club. The music was supplied by Mrs H. McConchie at the piano and the servicemen and their, partners enjoyed a pleasant evening.
