BREAKING VIGIL
See! That the sky is bright, So the day, when it comes, will be clear. You have faithfully watched through the night, Are you fainting now morning is near? Watch the light spread in the East, And the stars growing dimmer and fewer. How slowly day comes? But at least It is sure, oh, triumphantly sure. Hark! Now the birds awake, And with wild, random rhythm they sing. At the mirthful, sweet music they make, Ought real hope in our hearts not to ring? Look, how a golden wave Breaks bright on the heights of the hills. We need not to longer wait? Save. Till the meadows, this garden . it fills. See, how the dewdrops gleam On the roses that perfume the air. Oh, the night, it is but as a dream, And the dragging dark hours of despair. Elsie S. Arnold, Motupiko.
