MANPOWER IN ARMED SERVICES
INVESTIGATION INTO UTILISATION Wellington, May 26. The Miinister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, announced the setting up of a committee to investigate the proper utilisation of manpower in the armed services, having regard to the requirements of the armed services and civil employment. The committee will make recommendations to the Minister from time to time. The personnel is as follows: Mr A. D. Park, C.M.G., chairman and Director of the State Advances Corporation and former Secretary to the Treasury; Mr J. H. Boyes. deputy chairman. Public Service Commissioner; Mr H. L. Bockett, Director of National Service Department; Mr W. R. Clarke, who has been a member of the Armed Forces Appeal Board in Dunedin and is secretary-of the Seamen’s Union in Dunedin; Mr lan M. Matheson, . New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation; Mr Leonard G. Lowry. M.P., Otaki, who served in the last war; and Mr T. L. Macdonald. M.P., Mataura, who served in both the last and present wars.The Minister also announced that each of the Chiefs of Staff would appoint a Services’ representative to be associated with the committee when matters concerning his part of the services were being considered. Such a representative had no voting power. The committee was to investigate the whole matter generally as soon as possible and would inquire into such particular matters from time to time as the Minister referred to them or as the committee thought fit. —P.A.
