NEW HEALTH DEPARTMENT APPOINTMENT

Wellington, This Day. The Minister of Health, the Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer. announced that Dr. Duncan Cook, Medical Officer of Health at Palmerston North, had been appointed to the position of Director of the Division of Health Benefits in the head office of the Health Department. The appointment had previously been held by Dr. F. S. Mac Lean. whose transfer to other duties had caused a vacancy. Dr. Cook will be responsible for the administration of that part of the Social Security Act administered by the Minister of Health. Dr. Cook first joined the Health Department in 1930. when he was appointed Medical Officer of Health, Dunedin. In 1932 he was transferred to Palmerston North. Prior to joining the department Dr. Cook had had considerable experience in private practice.
